Who am I?

Hi, I'm Cecilia. I have had the privilege of working with the American School of Bombay for the last thirteen years in close collaboration with two dynamic teams - Performing Arts and Pre-Kindergarten.  

 

I have an adventurous spirit! I believe that embracing risk and unpredictability adds depth and meaning to every experience—whether I’m traveling or immersed in my professional endeavors.

 

When I reflect on why I chose a career in education, I recognize that it stems from my desire for children to experience school as a nurturing, joyful space. There is profound fulfillment in witnessing young learners take risks, inquire, and make discoveries—especially during those “aha” moments when they realize their own capability and resilience. That spark of recognition is what continually inspires my practice.

 

I also hold a strong conviction in the importance of giving back to the society. The cross-cultural understanding and mutual learning that emerge through meaningful community service initiatives have been deeply enriching and humbling experiences.

 

I draw great inspiration from the Reggio Emilia Approach, which views the child as a capable, curious, and powerful protagonist in their own learning journey. Every child lies at the heart of my practice, and the joy I derive from this calling comes from each engagement—professional and personal alike. Children constantly invite me to see the world through fresh perspectives, offering new interpretations of our curriculum and reminding me to find wonder in the familiar. They also keep me young at heart!

 

At its core, teaching—or rather, co-learning—is not an exact science but an evolving art form, continually shaped by the diverse needs and aspirations of every child. It is an ever-unfolding process that remains my enduring passion. The journey itself often becomes the destination, as I learn as much as I teach. It has been a deeply rewarding voyage, and I aspire to keep growing—with a broadened global perspective, a spark of curiosity for lifelong learning, and a steadfast commitment to pioneering positive change in education.

  

Underpinning my professional experience is a passion for health and fitness, travel and adventure, storytelling, dancing, hiking, exploring, innovative and progressive education and forging deep friendships.
